Yio Chu Kang Secondary SchoolEdit profile
The School （永康中学）was established in 1965 in the same year that Singapore become a Republic. It was built to provide secondary education for the pupils who lived in the Yio Chu Kang （杨厝港）area in response to a request made by villagers during a visit by Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the Prime Minister, to the community. The area at that was a rural farming village and the school began as a Chinese / English integrated school. In 1982, the school was resited to its present premises in Ang Mo Kio. The new premises was opened by Mr Lau Ping Sum, MP for Yio Chu Kang constituency. The current principal is Mr Saminathan Gopal, who has been at the helm since 2001.
YCKSS is committed to promote a vibrant arts culture through the providence of a rich and integrated arts education to all students. The school strives to instill appreciation and learning in the various arts forms by structuring high quality foundation and enrichment programmes during curriculum time as well as the implementation of performing arts CCAs. Through arts, the school provides multiple platforms and opportunities for students to learn values and build character.
