Yalikavak Residences
Like nearly the whole projects that we experienced in similar regions, Yal?kavak Residences has been formed with an approach that gives priority to its relation with the topography, in Yalikavak region where building bylaws are relatively looser than the center of Bodrum Peninsula, in a physical environment where the buildings that have been lost its relation with the convention, although they were called as “Traditional Bodrum House` are the majority. View opportunities at different places of the land and the sharp slope of it, going up to 40 % sometimes have been the most important facts determining the relations between the residential units in different sizes. The arrangement of residential units in two or three storey buildings according to the slope of land has allowed the upper surface of all service roads -except for the main arterial road- to be used as private gardens of the houses. By this way natural landscape has been rearranged and turned into a sustainable situation as much as possible. The distance of the buildings to the coast enabled the social and recreational units be designed as ‘topography-building’ making its own physical existance unvisible despite the fact that they have been arranged as the attractive elements of the project. The potentials that have been provided by climatic data have been handled as design inputs in planning stage of residential units. In this sense, the shady zones that have been created by deep canopies on the scenic façade of each building; shady and cool terraces; besides the wind roads providing natural ventilation, inner gardens and galleries aiming to benefit from natural light and enriching the spatial experience have been used as the main instruments of the project.
