New York restaurant 'What Happens When' designed by The Metrics Design Group creates an atmosphere that is as unconventional, dynamic and theatrical as its name - and New York City itself.
Creators' description of the concept and process of developing and curating the venue reveals: 'What Happens When' is a playground for food. It is a temporary restaurant installation that transforms every 30 days for 9 months, offering guests an ever-changing culinary, visual and sound experience. This delicious exhibition is a result of the collaboration between one chef, two designers, a photographer and a composer.
In the beginning: We walked into 25 Cleveland Place today, the space was…well…let’s say, less than desirable. The former restaurant, Le Jardin, closed last October after 15 years of business in Nolita and the last operators left dozens of ceramic frogs in their wake. Alongside a slouchy bar and old school sconces. But it is ours. For the next nine months we’ll plan, create, invent and share what we always wanted to make–a restaurant that wasn’t held by the constraints... '
So far the space has undergone four of the planned make-overs the authors call 'Movements' - a fifth one the way.
