Villa M is a modest one-family house located at Kolbotn, a small township 20 minutes drive south of Oslo.
The site is subdivided from the property on the west side of the site, and has a steep 8 meters height difference from the road up to an almost horizontal plateau.
The young Jensen / Isachsen family approach us with this difficult site, a modest budget and a strong wish for a house “that looks like you could shoot a James Bond movie in it`. Challenges like that are hard to resist for us.
The entrance from the road follows a stair cut into the slope. The stair penetrates through the house, letting you up on the plateau from where you can enter the building. The triangular cut into the volume organizes the plan into parts.
The volume of the house is lifted above the slope on slender steel columns, preserving the polished granite boulders made from glacial activity.
The plan is laid out with 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a generous continuous space for kitchen / dining / living.
To minimize blasting, the connection to water and electricity was put into the stair.
Materials:
The structure is steel. Exterior cladding: fiber cement boards. Floor: polished concrete. Walls / ceilings: birch plywood.
