Tokio Marine and Fire InsuranceEdit profile
The building occupies a prominent corner site at the junction of Bishopsgate and Leadenhall Street, in the centre of the City of London. The entrance hall was added to Tokio Marine’s head office in London as part of an overall refurbishment of the iconic building from the 1960's.
The design of the entrance hall involved glazing the ‘slot’ between No. 150 and the adjacent building to create a high, rooflight space, reminiscent of the nearby Leadenhall Market. Three new meeting rooms are stacked up at the back of the entrance hall, with open walkways providing access from the existing building and terminating the views down the entrance hall.
The new planar glazed entrance façade is screened by a delicate grid of aluminium louvres, which contrast with the solidity of the existing building. At the same time, the louvres and other metal elements of the façade are dark bronze anodised, harmonizing with the curtain walling of the existing building and so uniting the new structure with the original.
The refurbishment also included extensive works to all the common areas of the building including the lift lobbies and toilets. Internal finishes included sycamore timber paneling, polished plaster, mosaic tiling and limestone and slate flooring.
