Thomas Tallis School
The design brief for this project was developed by the Thomas Tallis School Champion, John McAslan + Partners, and the design group at the school, made up of students and staff. The secondary school’s two- and three-storey buildings are naturally ventilated, with high levels of natural light, with a predicted BREEAM Very Good rating. The buildings are arranged around a central concourse. Landscaped space between the teaching blocks creates informal teaching areas linked to the concourse. The school has a performing arts block, sports hall (that will be used as Olympic training facilities), specialist teaching facilities, and three main teaching blocks. Open space connecting the main hall and performing arts segment acts as a forecourt for local people who use the school’s public facilities. The school is keen to develop community links, and provide community learning programmes and a range of other public services.
