The Power House

The vacant 20’s-era St. Louis Municipal Power House building in downtown St. Louis, opened as the new regional offices of Cannon Design in September 2008. In 2007, the firm purchased the 19,000 sf building and provided all design, development, and construction management services for its restoration, renovation and adaptive reuse. The LEED Gold building’s “revival style” exterior, featuring tall, arched windows on three street facades and fine terra cotta detailing, was fully restored, with new floors added within the building’s massive volume. This, combined with the existing two floors plus a rooftop penthouse, provides a sophisticated, yet informal workspace for 120 architects, designers and staff, and provides a gallery and exhibit space for use by the larger community.
