The H-House is a private residence in Giza – Egypt. It has a unique location on a hill overlooking the Pyramids. This view was main design force which lead the end form; along with the desire to benefit from favorable winds and create comfortable indoor as well as outdoor spaces. The plot area is 3000 sqm. In addition to bedrooms, reception area, living, study area, etc. the program included an outdoor swimming pool, a lap pool and a hot tub. This abundance and variety in water features were main elements in space design. The outcome has an informal geometry and a unique spatial experience; double height spaces, clear storey and dynamic circulation. Mezzanine semi-public spaces were created and the house keeps the horizontality requested by the client. All main spaces including the reception area, the living and the master bedroom are oriented to have a panoramic vista of the pyramids. As for the main garden; it is sunk to the basement level and is designed to benefit from the low pressure which creates wind movement in the back of the house. Clear storey windows in specific elevations help natural ventilation throughout the house. The design forces regarded in this house have multiple intersecting directions which created guidelines for the geometry of the layout in general and some effect on the section line and levels in the house to maintain maximum view for different spaces. In addition to the min guidelines which create the layout; the form is manipulated as a sheet of solid plane cut, lifted and extruded to create the different heights and interlocking of spaces.
