Kings Cross and Darlinghurst are infamous for ‘the Wall’ and exuberant ‘Coke sign’ – this project adds to those interesting cultural layers with the provision of a new type of sign and a new type of wall, reviving and exciting this part of Sydney’s public domain.
Designed as one big art-wall gesture, the slim 6 storey building is composed of a sculpted steel base, a steel veil which acts as a sun screen, and translucent lightbox with changing images which will be designed by artists every 4 months.
Programmatically the building houses street-level retail and restaurant, boutique offices, a Public Art lightbox, an art-screen and a street-level grotto for the urban dispossessed.
