Taiwan Forest Pavilion
Edit profilenARCHITECTS’ Forest Pavilion serves as a shaded meeting space for visitors to the Masadi Green Wonder festival in a scenic area of Hua Lien. The festival’s goal is to create public awareness about a new growth forest that is being threatened by development. As an extension of techniques developed in 2004’s Canopy for MoMA/P.S.1, the 20m/60’ diameter and 7m/22’ tall pavilion is comprised of 11 green bamboo vaults that provides shade. A central multipurpose void serves as a performance stage, surrounded by a raised deck built with wood reclaimed from a recent Tsunami. The bamboo vaults were built by a team of Amis (indigenous people to the area, skilled in bamboo construction), and the foundations, steel and decking by a Taipei based contractor.
