The stadium was built in 1936. The first event that took place on the newly built stadium wasn't a football match. It was an event called "Sokolski slet". One thing that makes the City stadium in Subotica stand out is its rectangular shape. During the years it has gone through several renovations, in 1972, 1978, and the latest was in the past few years. But they were all long overdue. Today the stadium is again in need of drastic renovations in case of European competitions.
