A brand new building and a brand new school song, it's obvious party and with good reason: the building of the st. Joseph School in Leiden is ready.
The school has quickly transformed from a small school to a great school, because the number of students continues to rise. The atmosphere of the small elementary school has carefully considered to preserve the shape and appearance of the school. The philosophy of the school: openness, (lots of light and space), venue (hall, wide corridors) and colorful, plays an important role.
Unlike the existing building blocks that are very strict and straight, is a sculptural form to the school chosen by the interlocking of the masses and uithappen glass. The sculptural form ensures that the school, vocational, residential school gymnasium and knitting together.
It's become an aesthetic and social design. The design aesthetic is a relationship with the traditional buildings. The building thus becomes familiar and accommodating character with the neighborhood. The social character of the building is brought by the extracurricular activities of the BSO, the use of the gym by third parties and various gatherings.
Due to urban conditions, and the exterior is traditional, simple and effective. The interior is exactly the atmosphere that recalled the subdued character of the facade as a spectacle of natural elements to bring balance allows. The students imagine themselves in a familiar environment with numerous references to natural stimuli and finishes. The durable design
The idea behind the design of the school is to create a sustainable school with good comfort, but a low energy demand. It was also striving to use no fossil fuels to heat the school. The school is heated by electricity. The purchase of green electricity makes the school energy-neutral 'is heated. The school is thus suitable for a flux-cored future. A good indoor climate is important to prevent future changes in the kinds of additional installations. Any change will cost extra material after all. Furthermore, in a later stage often a cheap and energy-inefficient solution considered (eg application of split units (air)).
Heat generation and cooling
The heat generation is done on a sustainable basis through heat pumps. Heat the extract heat from the source. There is no heating of the school through boilers. The source will consist of an open source system where groundwater is pumped through a heat exchanger. Building sustainable measures / concepts
