SEFC Neighbourhood Energy UtilityEdit profile
Located under the south end of Cambie Street Bridge, this innovative energy plant for the City of Vancouver recovers thermal energy from the sewage pump station to provide domestic hot water and space heating to the False Creek Neighbourhood including Olympic Village. This project will be the first use of this technology in North America with only three similar projects – two in Norway and one in Japan – currently in operation. Generous glazing and view portals on the building’s facade reveal the technology used in heat recovery. A set of five emission stacks transformed into a hand-like sculpture by Pechet Studio, add a colourful addition to the Vancouver cityscape.
The building is also designed to showcase and educate the public on the system employed, and is LEED Canada NC Gold certified.
