A collaboration between german fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and german practice HPP Architects, the 'Schwarzkopf Lightbox' is a pop-up hair saloncurrently sited within Düsseldorf, Germany. A simple rectilinear volume containing two storeys, the reusable and recyclable mobile structure was constructed within four weeks. The store's exterior features an interchangeable facade which has been back-lit with 60 lighting fields. Surfaced with silhouettes of models, the graphics derived from Lagerfeld's music lovers photo exhibition and the Schwarzkopf's company logo doubles as advertising for the beauty services provided inside. Standing at 10.8 meters tall, the 15 meter by 11 meter building footprint produces 300 square meters of usable area. Illuminated benches placed along the pathways of the surrounding park intersects the open air and covered ground level, leading to a cafe which may be used by transient visitors or customers. Accessed with a stairway, the salon on the upper floor overlooks the park's activity below.
