Sackler Centre for Arts EducationEdit profile
The eduaction centre housed in the Henry Cole Wing at the V&A provides new learning facilities, designed to accomodate informal and self directed learning as well as formal education. The centre has more than doubled the space previously allocated to education in the Museum and functions as a multipurpose arts centre and venue outside of museum hours. A new staircase at the heart of the Centre connects the practical studios, lunchroom and reception on the ground floor with the new Hochhauser Auditorium, two seminar rooms and two artist-in-residence studios on the floor above. Making full use of the Museum’s original 19th-century architecture and soaring windows, Softroom have created an airy, light-filled contemporary space. Throughout the Centre there is space for temporary displays drawn from the Museum’s collections and for showing work made in the Centre.
