Red Lace
Located in a new development area nearby the city centre, the building is playing with two others apartments blocks along a park. The global open yard scheme of the building has been decided to create an interior planted garden animated by staircases and open corridors. Therefore every apartment takes benefit in being double oriented to the south and to the park view. The global obliquity of the facades offers large loggias and balconies to most of them. The landscaped flowered grid protects them from the sun and provides intimacy for inhabitants. This combination of the unaxial volumes and of the folded facades resolves the diverse urban conditions on the four streets around. In conclusion, this specific apartments block has obtained the building permit given by the city council due to its respectfulness of the urban regulation and its innovative scheme. The position of these dwellings is particular for more than one reason : on the edge of an urban park, in the middle between two other housing projects, playing its part as third invited ! – at last, the site originally was occupied by a tree of huge dimensions. These three elements created the conditions for conceiving the project. The choice for a semi-open volume, enclosing a small garden inside with trees, open on the park, allowed to create the dwellings themselves like being in the trees. The position of the park invited to open at maximum the facade facing it to the view and the sun, the changing and progressive cantilevers of loggias and balconies simultaneously offering shade and protection. Instead, on the facade facing north, containing mainly the bathrooms and bedrooms, windows have been treated differently in order to preserve intimity. The differenciation of volumes create singularity and offer a large variety of configurations of appartments taking into account the situation, orientation and level. The cantilever above the commercial plots on the ground floor allow to creat the « arcade » effect asked for in the urban regulation. The facades themselves have been composed following their position towards the sun ; either curtain wall, openings cut in horizontal metal cladding or alternation of glazed and plain surfaces, proportioned in accordance with use and position.
