Pepys provides 285 new homes in a historical setting overlooking the Thames in Deptford, south London. Situated in close proximity to Grade-II listed buildings, the designs were developed in close liaison with English Heritage and the local authority. The partnering process of procurement ensured a close working relationship for the design team and involved extensive resident and community consultation. The design involves a series of contemporary, spacious, high quality homes optimising solar gain and natural light. The buildings are arranged around a series of well-connected open spaces. Energy efficiency on-site and minimisation of long-term maintenance costs were ensured in the use of robust materials and modern methods of construction. Timber frames were used to impressive levels in phase three of the development. Pepys is recognised as an exemplar of sustainable design with a Building for Life Silver Standard from CABE.
