Pembury PlaceEdit profile
Pembury Place is a development of 30 units of shared-ownership accommodation on the site of a former construction compound in Hackney for The Peabody Trust. The scale and orientation of the scheme completes the pattern of the other estate buildings and the material treatment reflects a new, fresh urban identity. Supported by prefabricated concrete columns, the timber-clad ground floor plinth mirrors the site boundary with five storeys of housing above. The flats themselves are designed with an open-plan living and dining area that is dual-aspect which allows natural cross-ventilation, with bedrooms situated along the eastern elevation so as to benefit from the morning sun. The project has been commended in the Housing Design Awards 2005.
