Paradise Street
Paradise Street 'BLing Bling Building' Located in the Duke Street Conservation Area of Liverpool City centre, at the corner of Hanover Street and School Lane, the building fully occupies its tight triangular site. The building is bounded by the two streets to north and south east and the L shaped Abney building to the south west and south. Placed between two exuberantly Edwardian neighbours, the building celebrates views from the east with three major bay windows. The boundary envelope is patterned with a repeated frame enriched with deep mullions and transoms and interspersed with jewel like elements which respond to the heights and features of the surrounding architecture. These elements also express the entry, uses and opportunities of the building. The elevations to Hanover Street and School Lane wrap around the acute site corner on a single radius to effectively form one continuous elevation. The building is a commercial building consisting of a basement and five upper floors. Basement, ground, first and second floors include a mix of retail, beauty salon, leisure, education and office uses. The third to fifth floor are for office use. The upper office floors are intended for general lettings. The floor plates of the upper floors are successively reduced by the requirement for a light well adjacent to the eastern windows of the Abney building. The Unit A on Hanover Street is a hairdressing salon and school linked to its own basement space and to first and second floors by way of the staircase in the south corner and a lift serving basement to second floor. The other shop unit is intended for more general letting, with provision for a future accommodation stair within the unit as well as access to the main lift and stair core serving the office floors above. The upper floor office entrance is on School Lane. The offices are served by a lift and staircase adjacent to the entrance hall on the School Lane frontage. A secondary means of escape stair is located in the south corner. There are two shops on the ground floor level. The basement is subdivided into two ancillary shop areas with space below one of the units on Hanover Street, unit A and the corner unit on School Lane. This light-well provided adjacent to the east elevation of the Abney building, to allow light to the existing windows in that wall. Containing a hairdressing school and salon, speculative office space and retail units at ground floor, this six storey commercial building forms part of the Paradise Street development by Grosvenor and has come to be known locally as the
