Orona IDeO - innovation city

Orona IDeO – innovation city is the flagship design of the extension of San Sebastian’s Technology Park in Galarreta (Hernani) and its purpose is to house Orona’s Innovation Ecosystem in one location. It is a pioneer project which stands out as it brings together different synergetic activities –business, a technology centre and university- and a laboratory where leading-edge technologies in sustainability and energy management in buildings will be applied.

Orona IDeO – innovation city is made up of a series of buildings:

The Orona Zero building will house Orona corporate headquarters and Orona eic (Elevator innovation Centre) and is inspired by the Orona brand image.
The Orona Foundation is a hybrid building with common facilities and also houses areas for teaching at university level.
The A3 Research Building has laboratories and office space devoted to research on advanced electricity storage systems.
Orona Gallery will be used as a pavilion for visitors and will demonstrate real-time energy monitoring. All these buildings will be interconnected by means of a central plaza which will enhance the project’s urban nature.

The design includes a district heating-cooling system that will be managed by an Energy Service Company, and will supply each of the building with energy from 100% renewable energy sources. This clear commitment to a novel energy model is further backed up by certification to Leed Gold and Breeam Excellent building standards. Building in under way and is due to be completed in 2013.
