O. Fournier WineryEdit profile
O FOURNIER WINERY Location and Landscape: Located in the main wine region of Argentina, O Fournier Winery sits in a vast dry plain cradled by the Andes Mountains, whereby an oasis gives life to miles of artificially irrigated vineyards. Project: The project features four separate blocks in different levels that facilitate a continuous gravity-flow system. This design features the ablility to continue building in stages while integrating wine tourism and catering to the client’s needs. The different volumes coexist in harmony with their surroundings in an innovative approach that resulted in two circuits: an effective industrial circuit and a tourist circuit, endowed with beautiful landscapes and architectural experiences. Each of the four volumes, built in reinforced concrete, glass and stainless steel, correspond to a specific function and adapt perfectly to the changing environment and weather conditions. O Fournier follows an innovative architectural concept that seeks to express the very essence of 21st Century New World Wines while promoting a strong corporate image. The most representative elements of the building could be described as follows: 1-Harvest – Fermentation - Storage: The reinforced concrete structure houses the fermentation tanks. The grape reception terrace is elevated and can be accessed by two ramps that embrace the whole structure. Four cylindrical columns hold a cantilever steel cover that juts out to shade the work area. There are three iron and glass bridges that connect the columns where the lab and its annexes are located. A central structural skylight opens up through both slabs to bring natural sunlight into the interior spaces. 2-Wine Cellar for barrels and bottles: An underground reinforced concrete structure with a square floor plan, 50 meters on each side, creates a natural cross of light at its centre. Elevated off the ground there is an iron catwalk to guide the visitors’ circuit route. Over the concrete slab we find the visitors’ reception area as the central core to the winery. 3-Bottling - Storing - Dispatching: The semi-underground unit with a glass balcony is located at the level of the exterior plaza. 4-Visitors’ Centre: The semi underground cube structure connects the cellar at its lower level, and a bi level structure above the ground for restaurant facilities. It features a deck just above the irrigation pond with a beautiful views of the majestic Andes.
