New Providence Wharf

SOM is providing master planning, architectural, landscape and structural engineering services for New Providence Wharf, a mixed use development comprising residential, hotel and leisure uses. SOM’s design creates an integrated high-density development in line with the regeneration efforts in the local community. To help stimulate the economy and enliven the area, the development includes ample street level retail, cafés, a central public plaza and other amenities. A series of landscaped gardens connect the plaza to the promenade along the River Thames. The forms of the buildings respond to the history of the site and the adjacent Grade II listed ventilation shaft for Blackwall Tunnel. The arrangement of the buildings is designed to maximise pedestrian permeability and take advantage of views towards the river, Canary Wharf and future East London regeneration areas. The principle residential towers create the focus of the development with curvilinear bar buildings defining the site.
