Nanshan Wedding CenterEdit profile
While government buildings can often appear generic, cold and dull, a new structure for China’s Department of Civil Affairs boasts a unique - even romantic - aesthetic.
The structure has been created specifically as a marriage office, in attempt to return excitement and romance to the legalities of registering as a married couple.
‘The Nanshan Wedding Center is a new architectural typology,’ says project director Zhang Zhen of URBANUS Architecture & Design. ‘On one hand, we hope to bring a new identity to the process of marriage registration. On the other, it provides different types of public space for other users from the city.´
The centre rests on a plot about 100m long and 25m wide, with the main building on the north side, close to the street. A smaller, circular building is connected to the main structure via two bridges that float on a reflecting pool.
