Mildmay Grove / Colony Mews

The site is hemmed in on all sides by gardens and is heavily overlooked by adjacent neighbours. We developed a unique ‘notched terrace’ courtyard house typology to give private external space to each dwelling and to overcome overlooking of the adjacent properties. The buildings are arranged through an arch in a Victorian terrace fronting Mildmay Grove. A high walled open passageway leads through to a row of garden gates, which each open into a delightful south facing private courtyard garden. In each courtyard, a front door leads into the ground floor which contains two bedrooms and a bathroom. Stairs lead up to a light and airy first floor open plan kitchen and living area with full height glazing overlooking a first floor terrace. It is hoped that the large paved courtyards and the individual front door of each unit opening onto the pathway will encourage a friendly interaction between the neighbours, encouraging a 'micro community' spirit.
