Maggie's Centre South West Wales

Maggie's Centre South West Wales

The new Maggies Centre, initiated by the Charles and Maggie Keswick Jencks charity, which creates centers all around the UK to provide non residential support for people with cancer, in an not `hospitalized`, domestic-scale way, will be designed by Kisho Kurokawa in Swansea, UK.

The design of the new Maggie`s Centre is based on the concept of the cosmic whirlpool, a strong symbol of life, with everlasting forces swirling around a center. These forces are materialized in different programmatic volumes used for the daily activities of the centre, each offering a range of various degrees of privacy. The volumes-forces are interchanged with swirling streams of water and separated by streaks of light. The core of this swirling manifestation is the calm meditation terrace, a glass greenhouse which is floating on water.
