LynnMall is a shopping centre in New Lynn, a suburb of Waitakere City, New Zealand, on Great North Road adjacent to New Lynn Train Station, 11.8 kilometres (7.3 mi) southwest of the Auckland CBD.History
LynnMall was opened on 29 October 1963, having cost £500,000 ($1 million) to build. The development began in 1961 when Hammerson Property and Investment Trust of London bought 2.8ha of land fronting Great North Road from the Auckland Bus Company. The designers of the mall - the first in the country - were Walker, Lewis and Hillary & Co of Auckland. In March 1999, architects Hames Sharley undertook significant work to upgrade the shopping centre.
In a 2008 rating of New Zealand shopping centres by a retail expert group, LynnMall received just two out of four stars, the lowest rating in the country (though not the lowest that would have been possible) based on the criteria of amount of shopping area, economic performance, amenity and appeal as well as future growth prospects. The reviewers considered that the look and feel of the centre had been allowed to deteriorate and that the centre would need substantial investment before being able to recover its true potential. A spokesperson for the centre's operator, AMP, disagreed and noted that the centre had more sales per square metre than other centres and had recently been refurbished.
In December 2010 Kiwi Income Property Trust purchased the mall from AMP for $174m.Transport
