Leggenda Ice Cream and Yoghurt Parlour, Israel by SO Architecture
SO Architecture have converted an abandoned carpentry shop into a new branch of the Leggenda ice cream and yoghurt parlour in the industrial zone of Ramat Ishay in northern Israel. The existing space was very long and narrow (4.5m x 18.5m) which posed problems for SO Architecture who wanted to produce a ‘light and airy’ space. Their solution was to create two linear elements ‘that will lead the customer into the deepest parts of the shop where the cosy sitting places are located.’ The two elements are the sitting bar and the ice cream displays themselves. The foundations of the building pervade into the space: these are covered by the ’sitting bar’ which creates different levels for people to eat at. The building is designed to draw people in, SO Architecture explain ‘the entrance steel door and welcome roof were created as a single piece. The large door and facade were slightly submerged into the inner space in order to entice the visitor into the place.’
