The architecturally stunning Lee Valley Athletics Centre (LVAC) in Edmonton, North London is the largest indoor and outdoor athletics centre in London and the South East. The state of the art Centre provides facilities for athletes of all levels from Olympians and elite athletes through to schools, clubs and casual users. First opened in 2007 the centre achieved a commendation in the 2008 London planning awards and was recently shortlisted for the 2010 RICS London Sustainability award. The centre was recently rated one of the most energy efficient public buildings in the region – scoring an A grade in a Department of Communities and Local Government survey conducted in 2009. LVAC is one of two national performance centres in the UK and home to three of the four Team GB track and field medallists at the Beijing Games. It sees non-stop use by community groups, schools, and top end athletes making it the perfect blueprint for how the Authority will programme and manage its other London 2012 venues, the Lee Valley White Water Centre, the VeloPark and Hockey and Tennis Centres on the Olympic Park in legacy.
