Hampstead Theatre
The first freestanding theatre to be built in London since the National Theatre in 1975 and the first to be built specifically for the purpose of producing contemporary plays. The potential for the new Hampstead Theatre to be the catalyst for a major reworking of the whole Swiss-Cottage site in northwest London was encapsulated in the first design studies carried out in 1994. Major public realm improvements have been completed alongside the theatre.
