Eighty hectare brownfield site on the River Thames being transformed into a 15 million square feet community, including 20 hectares of parkland and open space, 10,000 new homes, and 2.5 kilometres of riverside walkway. At the heart of the scheme is Peninsula Central – a new business district for London. Its focal point is Peninsula Square, linking the 3.5m sq ft of offices with North Greenwich tube station, retail The O2 and Ravensbourne College. Farrell's masterplan for the site aims to responsd to the geometry of the O2 Dome and the curved shape of the Peninsula itself. It provides for a series of distinctive urban districts including four new residential neighbourhoods, an office and retail district structured around the bus and tube interchange, five public parks and twelve public squares. With 1,800 people already based here, 1,400 Ravensbourne students due to arrive in September 2010 and the first homes under construction and due for completion in 2011, there is significant momentum to this project.
