FAVOUR@CENTRAL

favour@central is a place of praise and worship for the young generation whose hunger of spiritual fulfillment. Overlooking to the greenery of Central Park surrounded by universities, malls and apartments, the design needs to resonate with the purpose to enclose a sense of physical and spiritual retreat from urban fray. The concept is to create a modern, progressive, dynamic space which fits with the style of a young generation church and also reflect the biblical messages. The interior architecture reflects the statement of spiritual objectives that experiencing the poetry of light and space through exhilarated forms. “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” ~John 7 : 38 The lay out contributes to the fluidity of space creating lyrical space flowing like a river as a symbol of living water. “Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him...” ~Psalm 149 : 3 Singing and dancing as the expression of praise and worship are the design main features in the form of singing & dancing wall. Organic forms are created through rattan and metal woven supported by LED lighting bring a ‘moving’ drama to the main congregation. It is an exploration of dynamic progressive movement. “I am the light of the world.” ~John 8 : 12 Natural light is carried from “picture” window near the stage unto the foyer to form an imaginary axis which symbolizes the light of the world. “I am the vine, you are the branches.” ~John 15 : 5 With majority member of high school / university students and young professionals, the church needs to grow and bear fruit. Wall to ceiling metal branches that interlocking each other is the metaphor of vine & branches growing from bottom to the top. “We are the clay, you are the potter.” ~Isaiah 64 : 8 An oval made of hand-weaved wicker basket in a fluid and plastic form is an expression of clay in the process of potter’s hand. This transformation metaphor space functions as a chapel. Great symbolic importance lies behind the design. The purpose is to bring good impacts to someone’s life through the understanding of the design concept. favour@central is a home for the soul, the heart and the spirit. It is an instrument of imagination, joy, reconciliation, and spiritual experience.

I would like to share the comments of my good friend Mr. David Hutama who is the Head of Architecture Department of Universitas Pelita Harapan as follow: Congratulations! I've seen Favour building before but not this one. So tried to comment based on whatever are provided here. I like the initial concept. I can feel the transparency and lightness or even transcendent experience that might be a direction for this project. Looking to some images here, I've seen some similarities on how Mr. Budiono plays with space and user spatial experience. Symbolization (metaphorical approach) is seems to be his favorite design method in exploring space. For me, personally this method is a powerful one to provoke 'wild' ideas to come. However to many of symbolization will be overwhelming too. Like Rasmussen said in his book 'experiencing architecture' or norberg-schultz, that a dialogue between user and designer happens in a series of spatial experience. The intention of the designer will be perceived in a form of spatial sensation. Therefore, the biggest challenge of metaphor approach is this. How to convey this metaphorical intention not only in a decorative matter but in an experiential manner. For me this is essential. Regardless, this building still an interesting place to be visited and enjoyed. Again congratulations Mr. Samuel :)

Upon viewing the majestic Favour@Central designed by Samuel A. Budiono of SAMUEL A. BUDIONO & ASSOCIATES, I must say he has outdone his masterful genius architectural mind in the fruition of this exemplary worship center. The entrance design of the Vine & Branches; God being the Vine and worshipers the branches, is exemplified in the utmost Biblical optimum. The Natural Light Of The World, who is God, present with his Angels, bestowing His love through the huge window therefore allowing worshipers a most peaceful angelic feeling of God's presence during worship service. The Urban Forest and Garden Of Eden especially resonates the Creation of God's beautiful world; providing glorious visual structures therefore allowing visuals to God's word in the Holy Bible. The stunning Living Water with the Singing & Dancing Wall uniquely displays the amazing beautiful colors of God's stunning rainbows depicting calmness. I wouId strongly feel God sitting right beside me during church services. Also, I strongly urge everyone to visit this most stunning uniquely modern worship center and 'breathe' in its magnificent beauty while praising, singing, and worshiping God. In my humble opinion Favour@Central is uniquely a 'Heavenly' spectacular place to worship our All Loving God!...Many many thanks to Samuel A Budiono for designing this ultimate glorious project and I'm sure God has given Samuel his very loving approval for his labors and saying 'Well done my son.'
