Evelina Children's Hospital
The 37 million, 120-bed children s hospital includes a day case unit, 20 paediatric intensive care beds, a neonatal intensive care unit and a special care baby unit. Driving the design was the desire to avoid an institutional atmosphere. This was achieved through high levels of daylight and a creative lighting solution. The building also has a glazed winter garden a towering glass fa ade that provides a unique environment with stunning views across the city landscape. This space is naturally ventilated by stack effect; it also acts as a ventilated fa ade to significantly reduce solar gain to the adjacent wards. The wards are ventilated using displacement ventilation to maximise air quality.
