Coffee Bar

A former loading dock in San Francisco's Media Gulch is transformed into an epicurean coffeehouse serving a diverse clientele and range of activities. Utilizing bare wood, exposed concrete, resin panels, white walls, and industrial steel, the design seeks to encourage interaction, theatricality, observation, and community. A continuous folded fir plane with numerous roles --bar, stage, shelf, work surface-- links upper and lower levels. By providing varied inhabitation options to the users, it both acknowledges the trend toward a modern officeless workforce and provides opportunities for distinct diversions and events.
