City Road BasinEdit profile
Regeneration of the land and waterways around City Road Basin in Islington follows decades of industrial decline along the length of the Regent’s Canal. Since the masterplan was approved by the planning authorities in 2004, various architects have made detailed proposals for individual buildings and Bennetts Associates’ design for the eastern tower develops the complementary relationship between the two principal buildings established at masterplan stage. As with some previous projects in sensitive areas, extensive public consultation before and during the design process was essential to receiving public support and proved to be a natural extension to Bennetts Associates’ open and collaborative approach to design. The firm’s continuing role also includes co-ordination of all the public areas around the basin.
