Borusan Music and Art House
This new Borusan music and art centre is situated in the historic neighbourhood of Beyoglu, Istanbul. It accommodates multi-purpose space for exhibitions, events, rehearsals, and various cultural training programs. Designed by GAD architects the music and arts centre preserves the existing historical shell of the building while completely removing the buildings original core. In place of the building’s existing interior GAD inserted  a contrasting contemporary ‘box’, designed using a lightweight steel diagrid frame system. The ground floor is linked to the street visually by large glass windows, reminiscent of the shop’s previous glass display. An additional timber terrace space on the seventh floor of the centre reconnects the user to there surrounding context, providing views of Istanbul and the Bosphorus.
