BOKTROMMEN / THE BOOK DRUM
BOOK AND BLUES HOUSE IN NOTODDEN, NORWAY
The circular shaped book drum rises as the cultural rhythm maker in the new urban harbor of Notodden. Accessibility from all angles, both to the main street of Notodden and the blues event surface connected to the harbor promenade. A 360 degrees panorama view form all levels of the building to the surrounding landscape and the city centre. A compact and sustainable building volume, visually connected programs through an internal atrium and differentiated acoustic spaces are all crucial part of the design concept. The project encompasses the main programs : A live scene for blues music, a department for creative learning, library area, sound studios, kitchen facilities, cafes, a blues museum, media walls, cinema and auditorium spaces as well as roof gardens.
