Anchorage Museum Expansion
David Chipperfield Architects has designed an extension to the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Centre, creating a new facade and entrance. The organisation of the new building is based on five linear volumes of varying length and height arranged along the western face of the existing building.  This arrangement forms a new facade and entrance onto downtown Anchorage. The glass is fritted with a striped mirror pattern meaning that as well as providing transparency the building reflects its surroundings.

The concrete structure is left exposed in the interior of the building.  The main public spaces - the entrance lobby, atrium, cafe, and exhibition spaces - use different colours and materials to give each its own identity.
