People's Choice Award: Important notice!

To all contestants in the WAF and Inside People's Choice Awards,

The People's Choice Awards have received global press coverage and we have spoken to many of you about the awards on the phone or by email. Here are some important notices about the awards and how to compete:

How to vote

People vote on the website by hitting 'vote for this project' (adds 1 point) and by 'checking in' on the mobile apps (adds 5 points). Facebook likes do not count towards the final score but just help to push the project out on social media and raise awareness of the project and the competition.

Integrity of votes

We have identified that some votes have been placed by automated scripts that added votes automatically. We have tracked for this sort of activity from the start of the competition; these votes have been isolated and removed - the affected contestants have been notified. To further combat this we have put in place a series of additional security measures that will safeguard against this from happening in the future - these include users having to register to vote (including an encrypted code that must be hand typed).

We log all votes cast and can assure you that only real votes will be counted. The integrity of this award is an absolute priority for us.

Fairness of the competition

Some contestants have mentioned that large companies have an unfair advantage. The opportunity here is to learn about how to market your project and services online - on the internet smaller companies have as much if not more opportunity to be creative and create a following. Please check out our blog for tips how to do this over the coming weeks and months.

Updating your project information

Projects in the People's Choice Awards are not openly editable - this is to stop people from tampering with the projects. If you have any changes you want to make, you can do this by emailing us directly and we will make the changes for you - support@openbuildings.com - please try to group your changes in one email, as this will help us to respond to you more quickly.

Stay up to date

Follow the OpenBuildings blog for more information about the awards. We will be posting regularly with articles about the awards, the contestants and most importantly ways to market your project online and to build a following.

Free Tickets!

Invite colleagues and friends to comment on projects in the competition - we have 5 free tickets to give away to those with the 'best' comments.

Still have questions?

Please email support@openbuildings.com

for Tom Mallory : Q = if someone is without mobile devices...is right to be inferior...??? Why is 5 points to someones from riches countries...??? I understud your politics about making popular this event, but...everybody is not so powerful to have mobile devise ! If someone is voting by own PC (your is procedure to checking his/her IP) and has only 1 point...this HURT him/her !!! Will be my best wish ~ to GO in Barcelona (2-4 November 2011), but I'm busy...pls GIVE the tickets to REAL FANS...I wish you ALL the BEST !!!

for Tom Mallory: Thank you for explanation about reason for reducing and counting the really votes. This made a competition more fair. But I agree with comment of TOSHE ANGEL (ТОШЕ АНГЕЛ)about prioritizing the owners of iPhone and making their votes count 5 times more than usual votes. This event is supposed to be PEOPLES CHOICE and not The RICH Peoples choice ...

First of all thank you for the feedback! The reason that the mobile check-ins have more points is to encourage people to go and visit the project sites to make more educated votes. We have an Android and iPhone app to enable people to do this, however technologically speaking there is no other way that can collect this information without using smartphones - we are open to suggestions of how we might do this, as we are keen to make this Award as democratic as possible. Regarding the free tickets - these are awarded to those with the best comments, the number of votes placed are not related to this. Please let me know if you have further questions.
